CHILD & ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM (CACFP): This USDA nutrition education program allows Day Care Connection to reimburse licensed or registered homes for nutritious meals served. Providers are given basic meal pattern to follow (based upon food groups: proteins, fruits/veggies, breads & milk). They then choose foods their kids eat best.

You can be pd for 2 meals & 1 snack per child, per day. Good food makes healthy kids who are easier to handle & learn better. We'll teach you how simple CACFP is & help you by providing ongoing assistance through home visits & workshops. It's indeed your own tax dollar coming back to make you a more professional caregiver. Overwhelmingly, parents prefer someone who participates in CACFP, rather than someone who doesn't.

It's easy! We'll never tell you what to serve. You create your own menus using an easy meal pattern or our numbered menu system. Simply complete menu forms monthly. Then, we'll compute your reimbursement check based upon a tiering system (using parent &/or caregiver income guidelines) & the $ is yours!

Day Care Connection reimburses these meals at rate set annually by USDA. Meal rates eff 7/1/07- 6/30/08

TRAINING OPTIONS: DCC has programs & resources to help you continually improve your child care skills.

  • Live Workshops: Sharing & Support workshops are presented monthly on a wide range of topics. They're held at DCC, in Olathe or another convenient location. These workshops are announced in our newsletter, monthly publications or on this web site. They're a great opportunity to enjoy an evening with people who understand complex issues of family day care. Invest in yourself & attend regularly! Certificates of attendance are given.
  • Video Workshops: Many Sharing & Support workshops & other videotaped. These titles are available for check out from our Resource Center. Although less satisfying than actual attendance, they give a provider the opportunity to schedule training at her convenience. Video is complete with handouts & supplemental readings, when applicable. Health Department will give training credit for viewing, if you complete their report form supplied with video.
  • Readings: Licensing will give training credit for readings if their training form is completed. DCC has wide variety of books & article reprints which qualifies for credit. Watch our publications for current "Edu-care" offerings or ask for materials on specific topics or areas of concern.
  • Kid Kits: These are wonderful child learning units, complete with all supplies for you to use within your own home. Just come in & check out a plastic tub. What a fun way to learn!
  • CPR & Pediatric 1st Aid Classes: Certified 1st Aid training is required for all family day care providers. CPR is recommended. Parents frequently ask for this qualification. 1st START CPR, a professional training company, regularly offers CPR & Pediatric 1st Aid for DCC caregivers. Cost is reasonable & most providers find they really enjoy sharing such experience with other providers . This is a 6 hr course which counts towards 15 training hrs required of new licensed day care providers.  Call us for class schedule & reservation info.
